Take the time to disconnect computers, monitors, printers, and other peripherals and set them off to the side. Take a minute or two to dust and clean the desktop, then add\u2014one at a time\u2014the things you need for your work. Start with the big items, such as the monitor and the computer, and finish with any pens, pencils, notebooks, and other items you usually use.<\/p>\n<p>As you add items to the desk, go ahead and work on cable management. Group cables together by type, and use zip ties or velcro straps to gather them together and keep them from getting tangled. If there\u2019s something that doesn\u2019t get used regularly\u2014like a printer\u2014keep it set aside for now.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Maximize your space.<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>You don\u2019t have to spend a lot of money to organize your desk, but spending money <em>wisely<\/em> can help. It may be safe to assume you can remove anything older than seven years and go ahead and toss it\u2014preferably through shredding. If you don\u2019t own a shredder, check your local office supply store.
